The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MEYS) offers scholarships to students of Chinese universities who wish to undertake study stays at one of the Czech public institutions of higher education.
SELECTION OF UNIVERSITY AND FIELD OF STUDY:
- Applicants are required to choose a field of study that is related to the field they are currently studying at their home university/college. They usually attend programmes whose completion does not lead to the award of a degree (non-degree study courses/exchange programmes) or pursue an independent research activity, depending on their academic qualifications and preferences.
- Applicants may also be admitted to standard study programmes (especially doctoral programmes) for the duration of the study stay. The feasibility of this option depends on the host university.
- The terms and conditions of admission and requirements concerning the language of tuition are stipulated autonomously by the host universities which take independent decisions whether or not each applicant can be accepted within the framework of the MEYS’ scholarship programme.
- Access to the art academies can be limited. Samples of artistic work, e.g. photographs, video/audio recording of a musical performance, must be attached to the application forms of fine/performing arts students/graduates.
LANGUAGE OF TUITION:
- The primary language of tuition is Czech.
- Scholarship-holders may also be admitted to some courses taught in English. Admission to these courses and programmes is only possible on the condition that the relevant host university decides, of its own volition, to grant the prospective scholarship-holder a full tuition fee waiver.
HOW TO APPLY:
- Choose a Czech public institution of higher education, or its specific faculty, where you would like to undertake your study stay.
- Before applying, check the requirements of your preferred faculty/university for exchange students (e.g. which study programme you can be enrolled in as an exchange student, what documents the university requires, whether you need to register in the university's internal system, whether you can apply for accommodation in a dormitory, etc.).
- Contact the relevant department/institute or other part of the university (e.g. International Relations Office) and request an Invitation Letter / Confirmation of Pre-Acceptance that can be attached to your scholarship application. This document is not a mandatory attachment, but it significantly increases the chances of being awarded the scholarship.
- Be sure to inform the host university that you intend to apply for the MEYS’ scholarship.
- Fill out the scholarship application form according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China/China Scholarship Council.
- Only applicants who have participated in the selection process organized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China/China Scholarship Council and have received instructions from the institution to apply through this online registration system can apply for the scholarship.
- The application must be completed in English or Czech.
- An application is complete only if it contains all the required attachments (in English or Czech or with translation into these languages). Check the requirements for each document well in advance - some documents require a third-party signature.
- Submit your application within the deadline specified in the call (to be specified in agreement with the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China).
- Keep track of the status of your application. You will be notified by e-mail of any status changes. Always check to see if you are required to provide additional information, etc.
HOW THE APPLICATION IS EVALUATED:
- The submitted application will be assessed by the MEYS, which may return it to the applicant for completion of any missing information. Ineligible (without a nomination from the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China) or incomplete (without complete documentation) applications will be rejected.
- The MEYS may, in justified cases, propose a change of the scholarship period or of the receiving university (e.g. if admission to the study programme preferred by the applicant is not possible).
- Applications are then sent to individual universities for consideration according to the applicants' preferences and/or the MEYS’ recommendation.
- The university will assess the relevance and quality of the application and decide whether to accept or reject the applicant. Please note that universities are autonomous in their decisions and there is no appeal against their decision. The university may contact the applicant directly to request more detailed information or completion of the documentation.
- For accepted applicants, the university will confirm:
- the date of the study/research stay,
- the study programme to which the applicant will be assigned,
- the language of study,
- whether he/she will be provided with accommodation at the student dormitory.
- The evaluation process result is:
- Certificate of admission for a study/research stay, which is issued by the MEYS. The certificate confirms the host university, and the dates of the scholarship stay. It sets out the rights and obligations of the scholarship holder.
- Rejection of the application. There is no right of appeal against the rejection of an application.
