The summer language courses for international students are organised by the Ministry of Education of Romania in cooperation with local universities. The programme may include intensive language classes (focusing on grammar and phonetics practice, vocabulary development, conversational skills, etc.) as well as a series of lectures on culture, history, literature and local realia. Before the course begins, students are usually divided into study groups according to their language skills, usually on the based of a placement test. Classes, led by experienced native speakers, are often combined with an accompanying events such as guided tours, visits to museums and monuments, film evenings and theatre performances.
Summer courses of the Romanian language usually take place at four Romanian universities: the University of Craiova, Ovid University (Constanţa), Alexandru Ioan Cuza University (Iaşi) and West University (Timişoara).
