The summer language courses for international students are organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Northern Macedonia in cooperation with local universities. The programme usually includes intensive language lessons (focusing on grammar and phonetics practice, vocabulary development, conversational skills, etc.) or a series of lectures on culture, history, literature and local realia. Before the course begins, students are usually divided into study groups according to their language skills, usually on the basis of a placement test. Classes, led by experienced native speakers, are often combined with an accompanying programme consisting of guided walks, visits to museums and monuments, film evenings and theatre performances.
The International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture is organised by the Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje. The venue is the south-western city of Ohrid.
The places for participation in the summer course are allocated to Charles University as quota, and their occupancy is decided by the Charles University Rector's Office.
Applications need to be submitted online via this platform. Successful (nominated) applicants are later asked to submit a completed form of the Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science. The final decision on the acceptance of the nominated candidate rests with the foreign partner. Final results of the application proceedings will be announced by the foreign partner in June.
Participation in the summer courses is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Northern Macedonia.
The scholarship consists of free participation in the course, accompanying events, accommodation and meals. The scholarship holders do not receive any payments.
