Course description

The course is designed as a theoretical course with exercises training participants in searching and processing relevant data from reliable sources. It provides participants with an overview of climate processes, their disruption by human activities, and the decarbonization efforts of the world, the EU, and the Czech Republic, including legislation and obstacles to decarbonization.

1. Climate of the Earth, the greenhouse effect, natural climate cycles and phenomena
2. The carbon cycle and anthropogenic disturbances
3. UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement, and decarbonization
4. Decarbonization of the energy sector and industry
5. Decarbonization of the transport sector
6. Soil and its role in climate, deforestation, decarbonization of agriculture
7. Economic aspects of decarbonization, externalities, social costs of carbon, emissions trading
8. Environmental legislation and the European Green Deal
9. The Podkrušnohoří region as a model case for decarbonization
10. Statistical minimum
